A typical Sunday morning sailing at Como Lake.
Welcome

The Como Lake Model Yacht Group is an informal gathering of model boat builders. We are not an organized club, we have no spokesperson, we have no membership. We just like to build and sail our model boats. All types of model boats.

Our home pond is Como Lake, which is situated in central Coquitlam, British Columbia. It is the primary feature in a well maintained local park. There are many uses for the park and the lake, but we only gather once a week -and usually only in good weather- to sail our boats. Normally our sailing times are early Sunday mornings. When conditions are unsuitable for sailing or when the annual fishing derby takes place at Como Lake we often go to LaFarge Lake to sail.

Many of our models are sailboats but we also have many motorized boats as well. All of our motorboats are electric powered, since no marine gas engines are permitted in Coquitlam. Some of our boats are assembled from detailed kits, some are ready or almost ready to run kits and many are scratch built. Many of our boats are modeled after real boats or ships, however at least one of us has the talent to not only scratch build but design his own sailboats, while another of the group builds models from a simple photograph.
